Sligo Rovers claimed the EA Sports League Cup for just the second time in their history at The ShowgroundsThe Sligo Rovers captain who was presented with the trophy was Conor O’ Grady.
Conor is a past pupil of Summerhill and represented the college at all grades in soccer.
There has always been a great bond between the college and Sligo Rovers. The Showgrounds can be seen clearly from the college campus and the historic ground has been graced by many Summerhill players through the years.
Names such as Paul Mc Gee, Gavin Dykes immediately spring to mind. Paul Former Summerhill student and teacher David Pugh would rank of one of Rover’s legendary players.
The future looks bright for this connection. In the Sligo Rovers squad for the EA Cup Final was recent past pupil Mark Mc Goldrick whose father Declan, was a dual player for Rovers and Sligo Senior GAA team.
