Summerhill past pupil wins ESOF 2010 award
Dr. Donal Brennan , past pupil of Summerhill College and UCD Conway postdoctoral research fellow, has become the first Irish recipient of the European Young Researcher Award. Heresearch and received his award at the Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) in Turin, Italy.

The European Young Researcher award recognises outstanding scientists in the early stages of their career who have already demonstrated excellence at national and European levels. Although granted annually, the award ceremony is held bienniallythe ESOF event when the two most recent recipients present their work.


Dr Donal Brennan,is a specialist registrar in obstetrics & gynaecology at the Coombe Womens and Infants University Hospital.

He is son of Bernard and Mary Brennan. Medicine seems to be in Donal’s blood. His two uncles, Professor Brendan and Dr. John Drum, who are also past pupils of Summerhill, are internationally renowned medics.
