Summerhill College Notes
Double Successes
First Year student Ronan Anderson enjoyed a double success in recent weeks. He won the All-Ireland Under 14 Breaststoke event in the National Swimming Championships. He also won the Minor Race in the regional finals of the Schools’ Cross Country Championships.
The entire Summerhill College Cross-Country squad performed very well at the North West Schools’ Cross Country Championships held at Sligo Race Course Cleveragh on January 27th. The event brought together the cross country runners from schools in Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon and Longford.
There were also some fine performances from Cian Mc Bride ,Darren Kilcawley, Shane Kilcawley, Eoin Quinn and Cian Hamilton . Great credit is due to the boys and their mentor Mr. Leo Hegarty.
As we submit these notes we learn that Summerhill had a good outing in the resultant Connacht finals of the Schools’ Cross Country, held in Galway. Cian Mc Bride came second in the Junior race. Ronan Anderson came fourth in the Minor race while Darren Kilcawley finished eighth in the Inermediate category.

Gaelic League final
The Senior Gaelic league final between Summerhill College and St. Jarlath’s Tuam is proving a difficult encounter to tie down. The game had been arranged for the last week in January in Curry. However, St. Jarlath’s requested a postponement. The new date was scheduled for February 16 but that proved unsuitable for Summerhill because many of the players are exam-tied as they are sitting Mock leaving Cert. examination on that day.

Senior Soccer match
In the quarter finals of the Connacht championship the senior soccer team scored a hard earned victory over Athenry in a game played in Strandhill. Summerhill went two goals up and seemed to be coasting their way into the semi finals but Athenry came back with two goals to make for a nail-biting finish. Mr. Fylnn’s charges drew on all of their reserves however and ending up getting the priceless third goal to win on a3-2 scoreline.
